The 40th European Study Group with Industry was held at Keele University, 9-12 April 2001, and was supported by the Faraday Partnership for Industrial Mathematics, the London Mathematical Society and the European Consortium for Mathematics in Industry.

The meeting was opened by Lord Stafford, Pro-Chancellor of Keele University. The local organizer, Prof Graham Wilks, together with his team, provided a wonderful environment in which the participants could devote their energies to 6 problems. The participating companies were RAPRA Technology, Food Refrigeration and Process Engineering Research Centre, Vehicle Research Corporation, Mecon and NATS.
