The 2005 UK Study Group with Industry (the 53rd European Study Group) was held at the University of Manchester from 21-24 March 2005.
The Study Groups have been solving industrial problems for nearly 40 years. David Abrahams, Dave Broomhead and their team provided facilities that attracted 80 participants, working on 6 industrial problems. The participating companies were BAE Systems, Thales, Unilever, Motorola, Platform Diagnostics and Elkem. In addition to the reports available here, Elkem brought a problem on the stability of coaxial jets; for further information on this problem, please contact Dr David Allwright.
The EPSRC supported the Study Group through grant EP/C520327/1. For the first time this year, the Institute of Physics also sponsored the Study Group, through supporting the problem presented by BAE Systems, and we are very grateful for their support.
