A workshop on "Visualisation and simulation for virtual materials analysis and design", was held at Kaiserslautern in Germany on 29-30th September 2004.
This workshop represents a new research area, made possible only by very recent advances in 3D-imaging, computing speed and available computer memory. For mathematicians, it combines new applications and challenges in stochastic geometry, differential geometry, the theory and numerics of partial differential equations, optimization and control theory. Many sectors will benefit from developments in this theme, including transport, construction, and textiles, key targets being to reduce manufacturing and testing costs and production lead time.
Dates: 29-30 September 2004
Venue: Kaiserslautern, Germany
Workshop coordinator: Dr Andreas Wiegmann
