Modelling metabolic flexibility in humans - fuel utilization in muscle

This BBSRC CASE PhD studentship in 'Modelling Metabolic Flexibility in Humans - fuel utilization in muscle in the fed and fasted states in health and disease' based at the School of Mathematical Sciences at The University of Nottingham in collaboration with Unilever is now recruiting.


Applications are invited from final year undergraduate or graduate applied mathematics students to work on an exciting CASE research project jointly sponsored by the BBSRC and Unilever Corporate Research.

Students should have a first or upper second class honours degree or Masters degree in mathematical sciences or a related discipline.

Industrial CASE studentships leading to a PhD are fully funded, and cover fees and a tax-free maintenance grant for three years for UK nationals and fees only for EU nationals. Overseas students are unfortunately ineligible for this scheme. The maintenance grant value will be the standard research council rate (£12,600 per annum for 2007/08) supplemented by £4,000 per annum by Unilever. This studentship is available from 1 October 2007.

This project will be jointly supervised by Professor John King (The University of Nottingham), Professor Ian MacDonald (The University of Nottingham) and Dr Laura Pickersgill (Unilever Corporate Research).
