Industrial CASE Awards: allocation and recruitment
The Industrial Mathematics KTN has allocated 2 of the CASE awards from EPSRC, one of which is will be recruiting soon. The first project "Special fluid dynamical effects in Sport" is based at University College London in collaboration with TotalSim; whereas the second project "Network Analysis of Foreign Exchange Markets" is based at Oxford University in collaboration with HSBC Bank who will be recruiting to start 1 August 2009. OECD maths in industry report published
The OECD Workshop on Mathematics in Industry, held on 22-24 March 2007 in Heidelberg, brought together mathematicians, representatives of industry, and officials of science funding agencies to examine the relationship between the mathematical sciences and industry in the participating countries.

Emergence in complex systems, University of Bath, 9-11 September 2008
The Bath Institute for Complex Systems (BICS) will hold a conference on "Emergence in complex systems" at the University of Bath on 9-11 September 2008.

The Newton International Fellowships Scheme closing date: 4 August 2008
The Newton International Fellowships Scheme is a joint initiative of the British Academy, The Royal Academy of Engineering, and the Royal Society. The Scheme has been established to select the very best early stage post-doctoral researchers from all over the world and enable them to work at UK research institutions for a period of two years. Applications are now invited until 4 August 2008.
