Internships Expressions of Interest: seeking a partner for an Industrial Mathematics Internship
Internship projects currently seeking a partner are in the areas of:
  • Aspects of reaction-diffusion mechanisms of relevance to decontamination - from DSTL
  • Landing gear steering system - from Airbus UK
  • Identification of friction-slip characteristics from flight test data - from Airbus UK
  • Hybrid function analysis using SAT/interval arithmetic constraint solving - from Airbus UK
  • Review of Great Britain Electricity Transmission Security Standards - from National Grid
  • Understanding the variabilities of wind generation - from National Grid
If you are interested in partnering one of these projects, please contact Dr Vera Hazelwood. We are inviting suggestions for other projects to commence from now until June 2009.

Industrial Mathematics Internships - Special focus on GPU Computing
The continuing increase in microprocessor performance is no longer being driven by increases in clock speed, but by the exploitation of multicore architectures. GPUs make multicore computing accessible off-the-shelf. They take the specialist capabilities of traditional graphics cards and harness them in a more versatile way, to create completely new possibilities for scientific and engineering applications. We are offering companies the opportunity to take their initial steps into GPU computing using our programme of Industrial Mathematics Internships. An Internship provides an ideal means of creating new software demonstrators, or upgrading existing code, to exploit the benefits of GPU technology.
