Four Industrial CASE Awards to allocate
The Industrial Mathematics KTN has 4 CASE awards from EPSRC to be allocated for projects starting between April 2008 and September 2009. We would like to receive expressions of interest for CASE projects from industrial and academic partners. If you have an idea for an interesting project, please request the CASE Application Form from Dr Melvin Brown and return it by 30 June 2008.

Study Group 2008: reports now available
The 64th European Study Group with Industry was held at Heriot-Watt University from 7th to 11th April 2008, supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and the KTN for Industrial Mathematics. There were six problems handled at the Edinburgh event and the participating companies were The Actuarial Profession, E.ON, Motorola, National Grid, Reliable Data Systems and Unilever. Most of the reports are now available online, and the remaining one will be appear on the website shortly.

The 2007 Annual Report of the Knowledge Transfer Network for Industrial Mathematics has now been published. The pdf version is available to download.

KAUST Global Research Partnership awards grant to OCCAM
King Abdullah University of Science and Technology's (KAUST) Global Research Partnership (GRP) announced on 29 April its grants to four interdisciplinary scientific research centers that are engaged in ground-breaking work in the areas of applied mathematics, molecular photovoltaics, nanomaterials and computational science. The Centers are at Cornell University, the University of Oxford, Stanford University, and Texas A&M University. The grant to Oxford's new Centre for Collaborative Applied Mathematics (OCCAM) announced by KAUST Global Research Partnership is of $25million.

The Newton International Fellowships Scheme
The Newton International Fellowships Scheme is an joint initiative of the British Academy, The Royal Academy of Engineering, and the Royal Society. The Scheme has been established to select the very best early stage post-doctoral researchers from all over the world and enable them to work at UK research institutions for a period of two years. Applications are now invited.

CDE seminar: Keeping the fleet at sea
The Centre for Defence Enterprise (CDE) is hosting an afternoon seminar on "Keeping the fleet at sea" on 26th June 2008. This is the second in the series of events at the MOD’s Centre for Defence Enterprise at Harwell designed to bring in new suppliers of innovation and technology.

7th Mathematics of networks meeting
The Department of Engineering Mathematics at the University of Bristol will be hosting the seventh Mathematics of networks meeting on the 27th June 2008. The theme of this meeting will be of transport networks.

ECMI2008 begins later this month: 30 June 2008
Between 30 June and 4 July 2008, the Biennial Conference of the European Consortium for Mathematics in Industry (ECMI) comes to the UK for the first time in 20 years. The KTN for Industrial Mathematics is proud to be one of the conference's main sponsors. The programme is beginning to take shape and one can find details of the 11 invited talks and the 37 minisymposia on the ECMI2008 website. The closing date for registration and payment is 20 June 2008.
