Internships Expressions of Interest: seeking a partner for an Industrial Mathematics Internship
Internship projects currently seeking a partner are in the areas of:
- Hybrid function analysis using SAT/interval arithmetic constraint solving - from Airbus UK
- Aspects of reaction-diffusion mechanisms of relevance to decontamination - from DSTL
- Understanding the variabilities of wind generation - from National Grid
- Optimising management of objects for a content management service - from Hewlett-Packard Laboratories

Study Group with Industry 2009: Last call for problems
The 2009 Study Group is to be held at the University of Southampton from 30 March to 3 April. This is the last call for problems, so companies wishing to present a problem to ESGI 2009 should contact Dr David Allwright to reserve a problem slot. We also encourage academics to register.

Three Industrial CASE Awards to allocate
The Industrial Mathematics KTN is currently receiving and processing applications for its Industrial CASE awards for projects starting between April 2009 and October 2010. We would like to receive expressions of interest for CASE projects from industrial and academic partners. If you have an idea for an interesting project, please read more for details of how to apply or request the CASE Application Form from Dr Melvin Brown. The Industrial Mathematics KTN has allocated one of the CASE awards from EPSRC which is now recruiting. The project "Dynamics of aircraft main landing gears" is based at the University of Bristol in collaboration with Airbus UK.

New member joins the Industrial Mathematics KTN management team
A new Technology Translator joined the team in early 2009. Lorcán Mac Manus joined the KTN on 2nd February. This position was created to reflect the increasing demand for mathematics by industry and the numerous opportunities we see emerging.

Special Interest Group in Environmental Risk Management
The Industrial Mathematics Special Interest Group (SIG) in Environmental Risk Management was launched at a KTN workshop on 16 February 2009. It is funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). Its aim is to connect scientists with industry and to establish a range of collaborative projects in the area of environmental risk management.

New MSc in mathematical modelling at the University of Limerick
The University of Limerick is intending to launch a new Master’s course in mathematical modelling due to commence in the autumn semester 2009/10. The MSc will be run by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics in association with MACSI, the Mathematics Applications Consortium for Science and Industry based in UL. Applications for the MSc are invited.

Royal Society pairing scheme: open for 2009 applications
The Royal Society are looking for scientists at post-doctoral level and above, either with a research fellowship or working at a Research Council institute, with an interest in science communication and a thirst for learning how policy is formed.

LTCC 2009 Intensive Courses for PhD students
Five intensive courses are to be run by the London Taught Course Centre (LTCC) in Spring /Summer 2009. These ‘one-day’ courses typically start at 1pm on the first day, finish at 1pm the next day and are open to PhD students throughout the UK and outside.
