Study Group 2010 now open for problems
The 2010 Study Group to be held at University of Warwick on 12-16 April 2010, is now open for problems. Companies wishing to present a problem to ESGI 2010 should contact Dr David Allwright to reserve a problem slot.

Underpinning Defence Mathematics Programme
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is supporting a Programme of Underpinning Defence Mathematics (UDM) through the Industrial Mathematics KTN. The main objectives of the UDM Programme are to engage underpinning mathematical capability new to MoD; identify the best mathematical ideas and solutions through open competition and create new collaborations for knowledge transfer through Internships.

The European Mathematical Society has recently established a programme of activity called Forward Look on Mathematics and Industry, building on the OECD report in the same area.

Royal Society innovation grants
The Royal Society’s Industry Fellowship scheme is currently open and provides the chance for scientists with permanent positions in industry or academia to work in the other sector for up to 2 years. The Brian Mercer Feasibility Award will open in October and allows researchers to investigate the technical and economical feasibility of commercialising an aspect of their scientific research.

Stand-Off Detection of Volatile Organic Compounds - CDE seminar, Harwell, 6th October 2009
The Centre for Defence Enterprise, in conjunction with the MOD Counter-Terrorism Science & Technology Centre, is hosting a seminar on the stand-off detection of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). The seminar will launch a call for innovative research proposals for technology that can help locate trace amounts of VOCs in a wider environment.

Study Group Dates 2009-2010
Study Groups with Industry are an internationally recognized highlight of UK applied mathematics. They have been held annually in the UK for over 40 years, and provide a forum for industrialists to work alongside established academic mathematicians, postdoctoral researchers and postgraduate students on problems of direct industrial importance.
