In the summer of 2008, the Biennial Conference of the European Consortium for Mathematics in Industry (ECMI) comes to the UK for the first time in 20 years.
With over 80 institutional members, ECMI is Europe's leading association of organisations committed to the application of mathematics in industry. Its 15th Biennial Conference will be hosted by University College London between 30 June and 4 July 2008. The KTN for Industrial Mathematics is proud to be one of the conference's main sponsors.
ECMI 2008 will reinforce the role of mathematics as an overarching resource for industry and business, interpreted in their broadest sense. It will attract leading figures from business, science and government, promote the application of innovative mathematics to industry, and emphasise industrial sectors that offer the most exciting opportunities for mathematicians to provide insight and new ideas.

It is still possible to contribute a poster to this meeting - either as well as or instead of a contributed talk - and there will be prizes for the best poster and the best student poster. The meeting will be opened by Professor David Delpy, the Chief Executive of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council at 2pm on Monday June 30.The Conference Dinner on Thursday 3rd July and the Welcome Reception on Monday 30th June are included in the registration fee.
On Wednesday 2nd July from 17.45 to 18.30 there will be a discussion on "Where are all the Industrial Mathematicians?" preceded by a talk by industrial mathematician Andreas Schuppert entitled "Mathematics in Industry - cost factor or key for profits?"
The final session at 12.30 on Friday July 4 will include a brief review of the highlights of the meeting.
