The European Mathematical Society and European Science Foundation is establishing a Forward Look on Mathematics and Industry, supported by industrial mathematicians from across Europe.
Your opportunity to engage!
The first major route for engagement in this programme is now live. Your opinion counts so please go to the ESF Forward Look questionnaire and take 5-10 minutes to complete it on behalf of
your company or research group. The username and password are both questionaire (with one "n").
Activities in industrial mathematics are very strong in the UK and it would be excellent to get a good response to the questionnaire from UK participants. This will help to shape the future of Industrial Mathematics across Europe.
There is also a Consensus conference planned for the programme, in Madrid on 26th & 27th April 2010, bringing together industry, academia and government representatives.
The conference will feature the three working groups of the programme (“Training and careers”, “Interfaces between Mathematics and Industry”, and “Opportunities and Challenges”) and will be an official event of the Spanish Presidency of EU. It will be aimed at obtaining a more focussed attention to Mathematics by the European decision-makers, in particular in the preparation of the 8th Framework Program. A large participation of the community of European mathematicians is encouraged.
More information on the Forward Look project is available at http://www.ceremade.dauphine.fr/FLMI/.
Heather Tewkesbury is a member of the Scientific Organising Committee of this programme so please email her if you would like to be added to the contact list.
