The launch of the Industrial Mathematics Internships Programme was held at the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) in London on the evening of 18 September 2007.
Industrialists, academics, and representatives from government and the public sector joint the Industrial Mathematics KTN at the launch of this exciting programme and made it into a very successful event.
Contribution from Alasdair Rose, Head of Economic Impact at EPSRC, and Peter Grindrod, President of the IMA, followed the general introduction to the Internships programme given by Robert Leese, Director of the Industrial Mathematics KTN.
The response to the initiative from company representatives and academics has been very positive and the venue equipped with view of the sunset on the river Thames contributed to opening the spirits to collaboration. The pilot looks very promising and discussions for finding sponsors for the next set of Internships are already in place.
"I thought the turnout was excellent and I thought the final speaker was stimulating and a really refreshing note to close the event. I am sure from the interest in the room and the support from the research councils and the universities that it will be successful." - Paul Rice, Step Enterprise.
Trevor Maynard from Lloyd's Exposure Management has reported on the launch in his blog.
