In 2002, the Faraday Partnership for Industrial Mathematics launched the UK's first ever industrial roadmap for mathematics and computing, highlighting the scientific themes that are becoming increasingly important contributors to economic competitiveness.
| Entitled Mathematics: Giving Industry the Edge, the roadmap presents a vision for the application of the mathematical sciences to the challenges facing UK industry over the next 10 years. Lord Sainsbury, Minister for Science and Innovation, gave the keynote address at the launch event on 16 April 2002 in the House of Lords. The launch was hosted by Prof Julian Hunt and attended by senior industrialists, government advisors and policy makers. The roadmap will guide the strategic coupling of UK industry to the science base in mathematics and computing, by widening the opportunities for academics to contribute to industrial challenges and by showing where industry can help to steer university research programmes. |
