Reformation of the Design for Modelling and Simulation Focus Group (DfMSG), Nano KTN, 3 April 2008

The Nanotechnology KTN announces the reformation of the Design for Modelling and Simulation Focus Group kicking off with an Interwise open forum meeting on Thursday 3rd April 2008 at 10.00am. The meeting will be chaired by James Johnstone (Nanotechnology KTN) and Ayman El-Fatatry (BAE Systems (SEIC)) and will discuss the potential of micro and nano enabled modelling and simulation techniques and how the community can move forward with new visibility and energy.

The DfMSG focus group covers a wide range of capabilities and industries in micro and nanotechnologies. Technical areas include:

  • Mesoscopic molecular modelling
  • Visualisation tools
  • Validation of analysis models
  • MEMS design and modelling
  • Hardware capability and strategies
  • Code integration and sharing
  • Commercialisation of modelling and simulation products
  • Modelling in biological systems for medicinal and toxicology applications
  • Tools for integrating nanocomponents into microsystems into macro products (systems engineering)

The group will target relevant activities including:

  • Community events (sector challenge meeting and showcase events in 2008)
  • Access to funding
  • Industrial awareness and problem solving
  • Defining UK opportunities for funding
  • Project nucleation and consortium building for UK and EU funding streams
  • Centres of expertise marketing
  • Awareness of key industrial sectors to the modelling and simulation community

The UK Micro and Nanotechnology (MNT) modelling and simulation community is a very diverse group which has world leading capability and experience so it is important for the UK to utilise this for the benefit of all. This meeting is open to all current members of the DfMSG Group but also the wider interested community so please feel free to pass on this email.
