The Centre of Defence Enterprise (CDE) is hosting a special one-day seminar entitled "CDE Open for Innovation" from 9:30 on 17 September 2009 at Cardiff University.
The CDE, in partnership with the Welsh Assembly Government and Cardiff University, is delighted to be able to present a special one-day seminar on science and technology research in defence, how to get involved and funding opportunities.
The CDE is the Ministry of Defence's new gateway for UK science and technology industry, academia and innovators to help ensure that the Armed Forces have access to the best equipment, science and technology, now and in the future. The Centre provides a rapid response with a range of advice, assistance and research funding.
Members of the MOD research and technology community will highlight the varied challenges and issues faced by our Armed Forces across a broad range of topics:
- an overview of the MOD science and technology research programme, including the recently launched Defence Technology Plan and Capability Visions programme;
- fast tracked activities that provide “Support to Operations”;
- science and technology in counter terrorism;
- energy – including alternative energy and reducing dependency on fossil fuels;
- lightweight systems to ease the burden on the soldier - including new materials and approaches to personal protection, novel approaches to personal power (batteries, fuel cells);
- new materials;
- sensor technologies;
- how the CDE operates and funding opportunities.
How to register
The broad scope of this seminar will be of interest to a wide range of SMEs, academia and industry. Spaces are strictly limited and early application is advised via the events page on the CDE website. Confirmation of attendance along with joining instructions and directions will be sent once registration has closed. MOD does not charge for attendance at CDE seminars.
