One of our target areas for developing modelling and simulation capability in the UK is uncertainty and risk in energy supply. It is our intention to develop the case for modelling and simulation in this strategic area to inform future development of the national Technology Strategy. The first stage is to identify the key challenges faced by the energy sector and the areas where modelling and simulation can help to address those challenges.

For the purposes of this initiative, we will consider aspects of the energy industry, from generation, transmission, distribution and the supply of electricity to the end user, to production, distribution and supply of fossil fuels. The effects of regulation on a competitive market and emissions trading are also within the scope of this initiative.

To start the process, we held a workshop in London on 5th October 2006 entitled "Modelling and Simulation for Uncertainty and Risk in Energy Supply". Please contact us if you are interested in this initiative and wish to receive further details.
