The Industrial Mathematics Special Interest Group (SIG) in Environmental Risk Management was launched at a KTN workshop on 16th February 2009. It is funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). The initial focus of the SIG will be on insurance industry priorities. A social network has been set up to provide a forum for discussion of the aligment of priorities between NERC and the insurance industry.

Aim: To connect scientists with industry and to establish a range of collaborative projects in the area of environmental risk management.

Format:

  • Free membership open to all.
  • SIG secretariat will support networking activities and broker actively the collaborative projects.
  • A number of collaborative mechanisms will be available to members. They will include CASE awards, KTPs and Industrial Mathematics Internships.
  • A series of workshops will be held to discuss and inform future funding strategies for NERC and the Technology Strategy Board in the area of environmental risk management.
A workshop was held at Lloyd's of London on the 24th of February 2010 to discuss current projects in Environtmental Risk Management and Dependency Modelling Challenges.

A workshop on Risk Visualisation will be held at Lloyd's of London on the 11th March 2010 to discuss Risk Visualisation challenges.
